Attack On Titan Inspired Men's Ending According To Alex Garland

Men director Alex Garland has explained how the hit anime series Attack on Titan inspired the horrific visuals and the ending of his 2022 folk horror film. Garland's latest film sees Jessie Buckley play a woman named Harlow who is haunted by the men of the small English village she journeyed to, all played by Rory Kinnear. Buckley and Kinnear are also joined by Paapa Essiedu and Gayle Rankin. In Men, Harper Marlowe takes a holiday to the English village of Cotson following the apparent death by suicide of her abusive husband James (Essiedu). Renting a cottage from local resident Geoffrey (Kinnear), Harper is soon harassed, disturbed, and haunted by various men residing in the village, all bearing a disturbing resemblance to Geoffrey. Praised for its unsettling and gruesome content, Men's climax features a surreal, gruesome sequence where after fending off  Kinnear's characters, Buckley witnesses one of Geoffrey's strange doppelgangers give birth, with each of Kinnear...

Love & Thunder Just Thor Made The MCU Hercules

The popular Marvel Comics character Hercules has been notably absent from the MCU, but promo photos from Thor: Love and Thunder suggest the hero may soon enter the franchise. As the fourth installment of the Thor solo series, Thor: Love and Thunder will again focus on the titular Asgardian god of thunder as inspired by Norse mythology. The sequel also looks to expand further upon the MCU's lore, which could mean an appearance from another one of Marvel's most prominent characters based on ancient myths. Thor and Thor the Dark World established the character as a serious and sullen mythical being, Thor: Ragnarok provided a u-turn to his arc, playing some of the Avenger's stranger aspects for comedy rather than sincerity. Thor: Love and Thunder is set to continue this trend, with its trailer demonstrating that the sequel will maintain the light-hearted and comical tone from the previous installment. Introducing Russell Crowe to the Thor 4 cast in the role of Zeus, the movie w...

Mission: Impossible 7's Sword Fight Is Bigger

Mission: Impossible 7 looks to be exploring a new facet of action in its latest installment through swordplay, a trope that is bigger for the franchise than first realized. Mission: Impossible has solidified itself as one of the biggest action franchises in modern cinema for several reasons. Whether it be vehicle chases, hand-to-hand action, spy shootouts, parkour foot chases, or the new, over-the-top stunts that come with each installment, Mission: Impossible has proven its place in the spy-thriller pantheon. With the newest entry though, the franchise looks to be moving ever so slightly in a new direction. While the trailer for the next Mission: Impossible film, officially titled Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, certainly shows a lot of what has made the franchise great thus far, one thing stands above the crowd. Dead Reckoning seems to be exploring a facet of action previously unexplored for the franchise up to this point in sword-fighting, something that means more th...

Doctor Strange 2 Theory Reveals Dormammu Is A Strange

Dormammu appeared as the main villain in the first Doctor Strange film, but Multiverse of Madness may have teased that he was a Strange variant. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness expanded the MCU’s character lore and introduced many variants of the sorcerer, but one new theory suggests that the hero’s previous antagonist, Dormammu, may have also been an earlier Strange variant. The concept of variants is something that the MCU has progressively developed since Loki. With the MCU now fully accepting the Multiverse theory, the concept states that within the infinite number of universes, there is an infinite number of each person – some of whom appear as humans while others take on different forms. Spider-Man: No Way Home first brought these variants to the big screen, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield appearing in the film alongside Tom Holland as their respective universes’ Spider-Man. Doctor Strange 2 returns to this concept, but rather than recasting the various Strange...

Writer Marvel's at Doctor Strange 2 Namor Plans Hinted

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron hints there are plans to introduce Namor the Sub-Mariner into the MCU. Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released in theaters last weekend to generally positive reactions from critics and audiences. Most reviews specifically praised it for its horror and gothic elements — a franchise first for the MCU. Benedict Cumberbatch returns to star as the titular sorcerer. Namor the Sub-Mariner was one of the very first characters that Marvel Comics ever created. Conceived in 1939 under Timely Comics (Marvel's predecessor), he is a mutant son of a human sea captain and the princess of Atlantis, much like DC's more popular superhero, Aquaman. Also similar to DC's character are Namor's powers; he has superhuman strength, super-speed underwater and the ability to manipulate water to his will. In Marvel lore, Namor has been a key member of the Illuminati, an organization that was r...

The promotion reveals that Adam is returning to his roots as a villain who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. However, Adam took advantage of his powers, using them to kill those who would wish him, his people, or his beloved home of Kahndaq harm. Though he was removed as Shazam's champion, Black Adam was still a beloved figure to the citizens of Kahndaq who revered him as a god. While he's had his issues with the wizard's current champion, Billy Batson, Black Adam has attempted to walk a more noble path, even getting Superman to vouch for Black Adam...

X-Men's Revolutionary Approach to Villains

The X-Men's new policy of giving any mutant, no matter how villainous, full amnesty on their new nation of Krakoa is stupid at best, and truly evil at worst. Perhaps no "former" villain embodies this sentiment more than Arkady Rossovich, the Russian mutant known as Omega Red, a literal child serial killer who was a certified monster before he ever became a mutant super-solider. When Magneto, Professor X, and Moira X founded the nation of Krakoa, they decided that it would be a land free to all mutants, regardless of their pasts, which at the time sounded like a profound and compassionate idea; a way to let any mutant have a "fresh start" in a land where they don't need to fear for their life. However, the way that this policy has played out is ridiculous, and how the Quiet Council has been using the Pit, Krakoa's prison, makes the policy even more hypocritical. Omega Red is a Russian-born mutant with a long and horrible history as a violent and predatory...

Fan Art Gives Henry Cavill’s Geralt a Witcher

A piece of fan art for Netflix’s The Witcher turns Henry Cavill’s Geralt into a cyberpunk hero. The Witcher franchise began in 2007 when CD Projekt Red released the first video game in the series on PC. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would follow in the coming years. With the popularity of the franchise, it was only a matter of time before it got a movie or TV show adaptation, and in 2019, Netflix released the first season of The Witcher starring Cavill as Geralt, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer. The Witcher season 1’s nine episodes were well received, successfully appealing to long-time fans and people who had never played the video games. After season 1 united Geralt and Ciri, season 2 showed her training with the other Witchers at Kaer Morhen as the war continued between Nilfgaard and the Northern Realms. The show’s first season had a lot of world-building to do, with many calling it Netflix’s Game of Thrones, but season 2 was able ...

Batman Tribute Proves He Needs To Write A New Series

Iconic author and comic book legend Neil Gaiman is proving that he should write a new Batman comic by recently sharing a captivating poem about the Dark Knight during his current speaking tour. Detailing his personal relationship with the Caped Crusader, Gaiman shows his true passion for the character while showcasing the immense impact Batman has had on popular culture over his 80-year legacy. As such, it's clear that Gaiman should make a return to writing Batman in the near future. Sharing his poem during recent appearances in Massachusetts and Oregon, Neil Gaiman dedicated his short piece to the late comic artist Neal Adams who passed away at the end of April. Leaving behind an incredible legacy with Batman and a major impact on the entire comic book industry as a whole, Gaiman credits Adams as the artist who inspired him to constantly draw the Dark Knight's always-pointed bat ears in his school books. While the legendary author confessed that his poem wasn't one he ever...

Dwyane Wade is showing some Mother's Day love for Gabrielle Union. The retired NBA player, 40, wished Union, 49, a special Sunday with a montage of photos and videos of their jet-setting adventures, set to a cover of "Glamorous" by Fergie. Wade is also father to sons Zaire, 20, Xavier, 8, and daughter Zaya, 14, in addition to serving as legal guardian to his nephew Dahveon Morris, 20. However, Union has said she prefers not to be called a stepparent. "The stepparent label was put on me by the kids' school because you have to describe yourself: Who are you if you're not their mother? It's very annoying. It's not a word that I use," she said on Glennon Doyle's We Can Do Hard Things podcast in November. "I wanted to make sure I was consistent in their lives," Union added. ...

Marvel Theory Reveals Kang Already in MCU

Kang the Conqueror will make his debut in Ant-Man and the wasp: Quantumania, but his presence in the multiverse has already been teased thanks to his many variants, and a theory suggests one of those variants played a role in the MCU’s history. The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its expansion with its highly-anticipated Phase 4, which covers movies and TV shows, with the latter connecting to the former, and while it has been exploring different concepts, the main one so far is the multiverse. The MCU began its exploration of the multiverse in the TV series Loki, which introduced the concept of variants and saw Loki and his variant, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), breaking the multiverse by killing He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). This new character was revealed to be one of many variants of Kang the Conqueror, the villain of the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but as the MCU continued exploring the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse...

Rings of Power's Middle-earth Is Different

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the upcoming Amazon Prime Video prequel series to The Lord of the Rings, will showcase a different Middle-earth to what was represented in Peter Jackson's earlier films. In the original The Lord of The Rings trilogy, as well as the follow-up The Hobbit trilogy, to fully realize the world J. R. R. Tolkien created in his high-fantasy novels of the same names proved to be a massive undertaking for Jackson. The films went on to make billions at the box office and won multiple awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture for The Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King. The Lord of the Rings book and films took place in a fictional world called Middle-earth, a medieval-inspired fantasy world consisting of various mythical creatures and races of beings such as Dwarves, Elves, and Hobbits. Jackson's films were originally shot on-location in sets built in New Zealand, as well as in its national parks and forests. The Hobbit village of...

Doctor Strange's New MCU Confirms Multiverse

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron explains the movie's post-credits scene character. The Doctor Strange sequel is fresh off its stellar opening weekend in which it made $450 million at the worldwide box office, the fourth-highest opening for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Multiverse of Madness sees director Sam Raimi make his highly-anticipated return to the Marvel fold following the original Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, though Raimi seems to have drawn more from his work on acclaimed horror films like the Evil Dead trilogy for his MCU debut with Multiverse of Madness. In what has now become a common tradition for new Marvel movies, Doctor Strange 2 features two credits scenes, one that plays during the middle of the credits and the other at the end. While the post-credits scene is merely a joke involving Raimi movie regular Bruce Campbell, the Multiverse of Madness mid-credits scene introduces a new important character and is clearly ...

Shang-Chi Writer Gets An MCU

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings writer Dave Callaham gets an MCU-themed tattoo after losing a bet with the film’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton. Marvel Studios’ 25th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a massive hit upon its release in September 2021. The film introduces audiences to the titular Master of Kung Fu (Simu Liu) as he combats his estranged father and his criminal organization, the Ten Rings. In addition to Liu as Marvel’s first Asian lead, Shang-Chi features a predominantly Asian and Asian-American cast including Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, Benedict Wong, and Fala Chen. Before the gargantuan release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi was the highest-grossing film of last year. As Shang-Chi reframes Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin from Iron Man 3 by introducing the real Mandarin in Wenwu (Tony Leung). In the film, it’s revealed that failed actor Trevor Slattery was taken captive by Shang-Chi’s father and forced to perform or be killed. When Shang-Chi,...

Doctor Who announcement, previous cast and crew members shared their support for actor Ncuti Gatwa's impending takeover from Jodie Whittaker in Doctor Who. This long-running sci-fi series has been airing since the 1960s with several different actors having had a chance to play the titular role. Whittaker currently plays the Thirteenth Doctor, having replaced Peter Capaldi after his Regeneration. 2017 marked Whittaker’s first appearance in the series as its first female Doctor, but now her stint as the Time Lord has finally come to an end. Whittaker's final Doctor Who season 13 (subtitled Flux) recently ended, but the actor still has one appearance left. The special's trailer sets up the return of many previous Doctor Who characters just before teasing a glowing shot of Whittaker’s regeneration. After months of speculation regarding...

The X-Men's Banshee May Have Shaped Magneto

The X-Men's Banshee may have secretly shaped Magneto even more than Professor X. The story of Erik Magnus Lensherr is legendary in the history of the mutant race; a Holocaust survivor, he dedicated himself to ensure the mutant race never suffered the same fate. His methods were very different to those of his old friend Charles Xavier, however, and the two have clashed on countless occasions. There are many gaps in Magneto's story, however; entire decades where he operated in the shadows, his actions unknown. Ironically, Marvel's sliding timeline means those gaps are simply increasing in size; by most estimates he's only been known to the world for a few decades, although granted over that time he's become a force to be reckoned with. That raises the tantalizing question of what Magneto did between his escape from the Holocaust and the modern era. A curious hint is offered in Scott Lobdell and Tom Grummett's Generation X #10-11. This two-part story saw the Genera...

Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Biopic Could Fix The Great Gatsby

Baz Luhrmann's Elvis biopic could fix some things in The Great Gatsby that critics and audiences saw as big mistakes. Biopics have become a huge Hollywood trend, from Bohemian Rhapsody to Rocketman, and it was only a matter of time until someone, again, tackled the King of Rock 'N Roll. Elvis, starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks, is directed by Baz Luhrmann, whose last directorial project was The Great Gatsby back in 2013. Almost 10 years apart, Elvis could patch over some shortcomings of Luhrmann's last. The feat of adapting the great American novel would never be without its critics, and any films adapted from books can kill a franchise. Written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925, The Great Gatsby put money and wealth at its center, and focused on showing the sinister side of the Roaring 20s. When it was adapted by Luhrmann, critics thought the 3D film was too gaudy, and strayed too far from the original book's core message. They further thought that the glamorous aesthe...

Advertisers are ‘right to be worried’ about privatisation

Advertisers and agencies are right to be worried about the impact privatising Channel 4 will have on the broadcaster’s distinctive programming, its audience, and competition for advertising spend, it has said. Top marketers at brands including Boots, Zoopla, Phoenix Group and Little Moons agreed last month that the government’s controversial decision to privatise Channel 4 was worrying, with some fearing its bold and brave scheduling may not survive. ISBA’s director general Phil Smith also expressed his disappointment at the decision, highlighting a lack of competition between the TV sales houses in the UK as a key concern. If there were any consolidation between the three advertising sales houses owned by Channel 4, ITV and Sky, it could create undue dominance in the market, he said. Read more: https://smartstream21.net/ ITV is reportedly preparing a takeover bid, while there has been speculation that Sky, Discovery and Channel 5 owner Paramount may be interested. Shows Off Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth in Thor Movies

Empire Magazine has unveiled a new image for Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder, which offers the best look yet at the new costumes for Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Jane Foster/Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman). It's also abundantly evident that Jane will be in control of Mjolnir, which is sure to lend itself to tons of comedy between her and "the Strongest Avenger." Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, JoJo Rabbit) has returned to direct Love and Thunder, following his soft reboot of the character in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok. According to Waititi, the return of Portman's Jane Foster is going to be a bit of a "mindfuck" for her onetime paramour. The director also said that his take on the character would lean into some of Portman's natural talents, saying: “She’s kind of goofy and has got a great sense of humour, and I don’t think that was exploited enough in the first films.” There aren't too many surprises with the costumes, though they do appear ...

Minx Has Been Renewed for Season 2 at HBO

It's time to put on your birthday suit and celebrate because the saucy little series Minx has been renewed for a second season by HBO Max. The series originally premiered in March of this year and topped Esquire’s list of “Best TV Shows of 2022 (Thus Far).” The first season of the series was met with exceedingly positive reviews, with The Hollywood Reporter noting that the series has “flawless cast chemistry and snappy writing." Other outlets praised the series for its charming characters and premise. Minx follows an eager feminist named Joyce, played by Ophelia Lovibond, who is hoping to sell her feminist publication in 1970s Los Angeles. After striking out in more traditional outlets, however, Joyce teams up with a low-rent publisher, played by New Girl's Jake Johnson, to create an erotic publication for women. In addition to Lovibond and Johnson, the first season also starred Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya. Ellen Rapopor...

Batman Version of Catwoman

Catwoman has proven herself to hold her own alongside Batman in terms of speed, acrobatics, and even fighting ability, she would be absolutely destroyed by her Batman Beyond counterpart as the futuristic version of Catwoman has an ability that the original could never hope to gain. Selina Kyle aka Catwoman created her now iconic alter ego in part because of her love of cats but also because she is a world-class cat burglar. Even though she doesn’t exactly have superpowers, Selina is at peak human condition in regards to her strength, speed, reflexes and agility, and she uses all of those skills to pull off seemingly impossible heists while also lending a hand to battle supervillains alongside Batman from time to time. The same can be said for Batman Beyond’s Catwoman, who is introduced as an antagonist for Terry McGinnis but a few issues later ends up fighting by his side. While the two versions of Catwoman share striking similarities, the future version of the character has a signific...

Bill Murray Responds To Behavior

Bill Murray has responded to the behavior complaint against him that occurred on the set of Being Mortal and halted production. Being Mortal was a dramedy film that was set to be the directorial debut of American actor and comedian Aziz Ansari. The film is based on the nonfiction book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by American surgeon Atul Gawande. The book explores hospice and end-life care and provides a discussion on how healthcare workers can improve the lives of those nearing the end of life. It was unclear the exact details of Being Mortal's plot or how it was going to adapt Gawande's work. The announcement of the series in August of 2020 was met with mixed reactions from the general public. Some claimed it to be too offensive, while others showed their excitement. The original webisode that inspired the series, created by YouTuber Vivienne Medrano (username Vivziepop), revolves around Charlie, the Princess of Hell, who wants to fix the realm's overpopulation problem by opening a hotel that "rehabilitates sinners," ultimately leading them toward redemption and therefore sending them to Heaven. Unfortunately, none of Hell's denizens have any faith in Charlie's project. Angel Dust is Charlie's first guinea pig in her experiment — although he's no stranger to sin, he had reluctantly promised to try getting clean for her in exchange for free lodging at the hotel. Regrettab...
