Bill Murray Responds To Behavior

Bill Murray has responded to the behavior complaint against him that occurred on the set of Being Mortal and halted production. Being Mortal was a dramedy film that was set to be the directorial debut of American actor and comedian Aziz Ansari. The film is based on the nonfiction book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by American surgeon Atul Gawande. The book explores hospice and end-life care and provides a discussion on how healthcare workers can improve the lives of those nearing the end of life. It was unclear the exact details of Being Mortal's plot or how it was going to adapt Gawande's work. In addition to having Ansari set to direct and write the film, Ansari, Murray, and Seth Rogen were set to star in the film. Production on Being Mortal began on March 28 and was halfway through filming when production was abruptly halted. It was later reported that production had been halted due to Murray's on-set behavior. A complaint was made against Murray for inappropriate behavior and was serious enough to spark an investigation. Production on Being Mortal was officially suspended, and it remains to be seen if it will resume or not.

Murray addressed the behavior complaint that he received on the set of Being Mortal. Murray explained that the incident was a result of a difference in opinions between him and a woman on set. He allegedly did something he thought was funny that wasn't well-received by the woman. However, he expressed optimism that they were going to work out the issues together and that production would resume if they could make amends. While he did address the complaint, he did not give any details about the incident that occurred. Though Murray did seem optimistic about amends being made, he also indicated that if he and the woman in question couldn't learn to work together and trust each other, the film likely wouldn't continue. However, he also said that the process has been educational for him, and he wants to learn from his mistakes. Searchlight Studios, who suspended production on Being Mortal, has not given any comment or update about the incident, as the investigation is ongoing.

Without knowing the details of the incident, it is difficult to say if Murray's account is accurate or if he is downplaying inappropriate behavior by claiming it was a joke. The fact is, this is far from the only time that Murray has been accused of questionable behavior. Countless actors, directors, and producers have come forward with troubling claims of Murray being difficult to work with, treating others inappropriately, or being abusive on set. For example, he got into a dispute with Lucy Liu while filming Charlie's Angels and insulted her with language she described as "unacceptable." Many others have called out Murray for being extremely rude and unreasonably mean. Again, though, this particular incident can't really be evaluated until the woman's side of the story is told, as well. What is known, though, is that both Murray and Ansari have received complaints and allegations regarding their behavior in the past. Given their history and the occurrence of yet another incident, the future of Being Mortal doesn't look too good, regardless of Murray's interpretation of the complaint.
