Marvel Theory Reveals Kang Already in MCU

Kang the Conqueror will make his debut in Ant-Man and the wasp: Quantumania, but his presence in the multiverse has already been teased thanks to his many variants, and a theory suggests one of those variants played a role in the MCU’s history. The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its expansion with its highly-anticipated Phase 4, which covers movies and TV shows, with the latter connecting to the former, and while it has been exploring different concepts, the main one so far is the multiverse.

The MCU began its exploration of the multiverse in the TV series Loki, which introduced the concept of variants and saw Loki and his variant, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), breaking the multiverse by killing He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). This new character was revealed to be one of many variants of Kang the Conqueror, the villain of the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but as the MCU continued exploring the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Kang has been left aside – but not entirely, as there have been subtle hints of his presence in the MCU. An unexpected connection to Kang the Conqueror was dropped in the TV series Moon Knight through the discovery of the lost tomb of Alexander the Great, but a theory takes this link further by suggesting that Alexander the Great was one of Kang’s many variants, and the legendary leader might have even been one of Kang's most notable identities from the comics at one point: Rama-Tut.

Kang The Conqueror’s Rama-Tut History, Kang’s real name is Nathaniel Richards, and he’s a 31st-century scholar and descendant of Reed Richard’s time-traveling father, though he might also be a descendant of none other than Victor von Doom. Nathaniel became fascinated with history and discovered von Doom’s time-travel technology, and he later traveled back in time to ancient Egypt. Nathaniel landed on Earth-616 circa the year 2960 BC, and after being nursed back to health as he was left blind and severely injured, he fled into the desert and left behind devices that held information about the world’s first mutant, En Sabah Nur, who would become Apocalypse and who Nathaniel wanted as his heir. With the help of robots and weapons from his time-ship, Nathaniel renamed himself Rama-Tut and took over the kingdom of Egypt.

Moon Knight’s Alexander The Great Connects To Kang, Moon Knight episode 4 saw Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac) and Layla (May Calamawy) looking for Ammit’s tomb and thus her ushabti, and during that mission, Steven made a major historical discovery: the lost tomb of Alexander the Great, who turned out to be Ammit’s last avatar. As such, the ushabti was hidden inside the corpse of Alexander, and then everything went out of control for Steven and Layla. Now, in the comics, Kang was inspired by Alexander the Great’s actions and victories, influencing Kang’s motivations to dominate time itself by becoming its master. Unsurprisingly, thanks to his travels through time, Kang ended up influencing Alexander the Great, as it was through him that Alexander learned about the multiverse and its infinite number of worlds, lamenting that he hadn’t even conquered one.
