New Roles With Global, Remote Talent
Covid-19 pandemic struck, workplaces around the world were forced to adapt to a life of social distancing. The best and only answer for many businesses was to adopt remote work models. As people got used to remote work, they started to see the many benefits it has to offer. Here, eight members of Forbes Human Resources Council discuss how their formerly on-site companies are currently benefiting from the ability to fill new roles with global, remote talent.
1. Broadening Perspectives And Opportunities
If you have five major hubs across the U.S. and some of the best tech talent happens to be in Nashville and Austin, but there are no hubs there, the only option is remote work. For any organization, remote working affords the opportunity to get broader perspectives and invite others in who would not have formerly had an opportunity to work for you.
2. Scaling Faster With A Distributed Model
It would have been nearly impossible to scale as quickly as we have (200 to 1,350 in two years) had we not committed to a distributed, flexible model. We've planted a flag in the heart of tech communities across the country and increased the diversity of our available talent pool. Our distributed model gives us access to elite talent, not just the best option within a commutable distance from our headquarters.
3. Broadening Talent Pools, Reinforcing Balance
We have focused on a "remote first, office optional" approach, which has allowed us to focus on broadening our talent pools. Additionally, encouraging and evangelizing flexibility globally helps reinforce life and work balance, how we work, what we deliver and the impact we make is at the heart. Intentionally reimagining the role of the office is an important component of this flexibility.
4. Innovating And Engaging With New Ideas
We are benefiting from a vast amount of innovation from the global new hires, coupled with strong engagement due to this newly founded flexibility. We've benefited from new ideas, perspectives and strong skill sets. This could not have occurred without embracing the virtual workforce and modifying our normal to allow for this heightened level of remote competency.
5. Seeing More Diversity, Stronger Thinking
I loved it when we went fully remote, and I love it when my clients do too. They benefit from more diversity in their hires, stronger thinking partners and better overall morale due to a better work and life balance. It also allows for us to be more competitive in our hiring process and gets us to fill our roles faster. It really is the way of the future.
