After each guess, the game shows gray blocks for wrong letters, yellow blocks for right letters in the wrong spot and green blocks for right letters in the correct spot. The Secrets of Dumbledore’ Is Fantastic Beasts

The third ‘Beasts’ film arrived to little fanfare this weekend, and with good reason. Now, after two lackluster offerings in a row, Warner Bros. has a decision to make about the fate of the franchise. The theater where I saw Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore had a problem. Throughout all of the pre-film rigmarole—commercials and trivia, some previews and announcements—the screen didn’t work. All nine of us present in the audience on opening night could hear the advertisements, but not see them. By the start of the feature presentation, the visuals had flickered on, so my viewing experience for the third Beasts film was not compromised. But I’m not sure how much I would have missed had the screen remained dark. That might seem an overly harsh assessment of a movie that eclipses its predecessor in quality—though given the disorienting mess that was 2018’s Crimes of Grindelwald, that’s not a high bar to clear. But the Beasts prequel series is now more than halfway over, and it...

Playing the Villain in this You’re Story

No, I try not to. You know, great performances make a big impact on my psyche, so I have to try to not think about them. Otherwise I’ll just start imitating other actors that I love. And then I’ll be doing a John Malkovich impersonation in the middle of a movie, and that’s probably not a great idea. I was inspired by Vincent D’onofrio’s Fisk, because I know Vincent, and I studied his performance because it was so original, and so strange. Vincent is always so creative in how he creates characters, and it let me know that Marvel was game to try anything if I could come up with something smart and good enough for them. I enjoyed studying villains, but there wasn’t any one specifically. I like trying to copy real people. Oscar’s character is a patient, so I imagined what would his doctor be like. And as you study Dissociative Identity Disorder, you see how much it speaks in dreams. And I start thinking about "Oh yeah, Carl Jung was always studying dreams, and what the power of symb...

Automotive Story Would Make A Movies

Jalopnik, we love a good car movie. Whether it’s the ridiculousness of the Fast & Furious franchise or a look back through the history books with a documentary such as Senna, we’re always down for a good film night. But, we’re running out of flicks to watch, so want to dream up some new movies. So, today we’re talking about the stories that would make for a great car film. And, we want your help in coming up with a list of great pitches to take to the studios. It could be a moment in history that would make for a great documentary, or maybe you heard about a notorious bank robber that’s crying out to be played by Jason Statham in a car chase-filled flick. Whatever the story, we want to hear your suggestions for moments in automotive history that would make for a great movie. And, bonus points if you let us know who you think would play the main character. Tales like the whole rise and fall of DeLorean would make for a great watch. Or with Elon Musk al...

The desktop rollout of Core Web Vitals

The desktop landing of Core Web Vitals (CWVs) shouldn’t be a surprise. Two years on from Google’s Page Experience announcement, publishers have had plenty of notice about the new metrics. Particularly as CWVs are already factors for search rankings on mobile. Nevertheless, with the desktop rollout now complete, it’s likely many publishers are hurrying to get their sites in order. But why the last-minute rush? Probably because publishers have, rightly, been focused on mobile optimization in recent months, fearing loss of traffic and revenue after the mobile rollout in 2021. But with desktop accounting for just under half of global web traffic, failing to cater for this considerable portion of users could leave site owners at risk of losing audience favor and revenue, as well as their search ranking. For those who feel underprepared, it’s critical to hit the accelerator on Core Web Vitals optimization – ensuring compliance with first input delay (FID), largest contentful paint (LCP), and...
