Percy Jackson Disney+ Show Release Date
Rick Riordan's latest Percy Jackson and the Olympians update, the author guesses that fans can expect the new adaptation to hit Disney+ in 2024. Rick Riordan teases the release date for the upcoming television adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Centered around its titular demigod, Percy, the best-selling book series of the same name follows his various adventures to prevent Greek mythology's Titans from destroying the world in the 21st century. Riordan revealed back in 2020 that the new live-action show would be produced by Disney and that he would be involved in its creation, sharing production details with fans through his personal website during the long process. Filming for the Disney+ series began in June and since then, Riordan has praised Percy Jackson's early footage, calling it "divine."
Season 1 of the latest adaptation has been confirmed to cover The Lightning Thief, tracking a 12-year-old Percy as he comes to terms with his supernatural abilities and embarks on a journey to recover Zeus' master lighting bolt. Walker Scobell will star as Percy, with Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri having been cast as Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood, respectively. Early in May, audiences got their first look at Percy Jackson's main trio when Riordan shared a photo of all three of them together. As for Percy Jackson's release, Riordan previously guessed that the Disney+ show wouldn't arrive until 2023 at the earliest. Now that filming has gotten underway, though, the author is revising his estimates.
Disney's Percy Jackson Show Has To Fix The Movie's Big Demigods Mistake - Disney's Percy Jackson series should fix the film's demigod mistakes by cutting down on the romance and focusing on the Camp Half-Blood community. Disney’s upcoming Percy Jackson and The Olympians show could correct the demigod mistakes made in the movie adaptation. Rick Riordan's best-selling YA fantasy novels of the same name were first turned into a moderately successful yet short-lived movie franchise, kicking things off with 2010's Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. The television series reboot is now currently in development for streaming on Disney+, with Walker Scobell cast as Percy Jackson and Riordan on board as a consultant, and it has the chance to fix a number of problems with the previous adaptation, including its misdirected priorities. One of the issues with the Percy Jackson movies was their disregard for some of the core ideas of Riordan's books. On the page, the interactions between other demigods at Camp Half-Blood contextualized the story and introduced the series' key themes of found family and the gods' neglectful parenting. The Greek Pantheon is intrinsically linked with family drama, and the demigods all come from single-parent homes as a result of their birth. The majority of them have had difficult childhoods, and this was reflected in the Percy Jackson novels. The problem with the Percy Jackson movies is they overlook these themes in favor of setting up a romance subplot as early as possible, focusing on the love-interest character Annabeth immediately — even having Percy longingly gaze at her in slow-motion in the midst of combat — and mostly ignoring the other demigods.
The Disney+ series should make up for this major mistake of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and firstly explore the themes of parental responsibility and found family. This can be achieved by providing more background on the other demigod characters and deepening their relationship with Percy and one another. The greater setup of these characters and their bonds in the improved Percy Jackson adaptation will also create a foundation for viewers to care about other demigods when they do get more screentime, as Clarisse did in the movie sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters after her being absent in the first film. And building these community interactions and focusing on the characters' new found-family at Camp Half-Blood ought to be more easily done due to the show’s book-accurate age of the characters. Unlike in the movies, which aged up Percy, Annabeth, and the rest of the demigods, forcing an immediate romance instead of developing the ensemble of characters would make little sense.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians might not be until early 2024. In a new post to his website, he shared that his previous expectations had changed, and that it will take several more months to film.
So when will the show be out? I hear there have been some wildly unrealistic dates floating around on social media, so I am here to moderate your expectations. Previously, I have said that my own personal best guess was sometime in 2023. I also warned you that this could definitely change. Now that I have a somewhat better understanding of the work involved, here’s what I am estimating: It’s probably going to take us through December or into January to film all the episodes of season one, which is roughly one month of filming per episode (eight episodes total), though very often we are filming pieces of 101, 102, or even 103 out of order on any given day, depending on what set we are using. That means post-production will begin in early 2023, when the pieces are fitted together, edited and augmented with all the special effects and sound. This process also takes months and months, and that’s not even accounting for closed-captioning, subtitling and dubbing into other languages for our international viewers. That takes another army of people to accomplish.
